About Us
Serafim Dritsoulas had a special relationship to icons from his boyhood onwards. This was due to his Greek and orthodox ancestry as well as to his religiousness.
His primal profession as a goldsmith didn’t reduce his love for the orthodox art but even intensified it. His way led him to Munich where he met his long-time mentor and tutor who passed on to him not only his knowledge about art and the development of iconography, but also taught him how to restore and preserve these precious items. Driven by his profound passion for orthodox art and along with the corresponding knowledge, Serafim Dritsoulas, together with his wife, established the icon-gallery in Munich in Theresienstraße 9 back in 1974.
On his countless journeys to auctions, expositions, and retailers all over the world Serafim obtained not only simple house- and church-icons but also a significant collection of Russian and Greek exhibits from different centuries. The variety of the subject was especially essential to him. He attached great importance to rare motives and the artwork’s state of preservation.
His sons, Nicolas and Andreas, worked in the gallery, which is led like family enterprise, from their childhood onwards and will carry on the business.
Our field of activity consists of the selling and purchasing of icons and Byzantine art, restoring and preserving of icons, and the examination and evaluation of icons.
We are also willing to provide exhibits from our collection for religious lectures and events like meditations.
